Picking up the democracy habit

A lot of us don't pay much attention to politics, and don't get involved at all, other than maybe voting every four years in the big election.

It's easy to feel like our votes don't matter, easy to think that government's going to do whatever it wants, no matter what we want.

But government is US. We choose who makes our laws and enforces them, and there are lots of ways we can move our communities in the direction we want.

(And yep, it's true, there are all kinds of things that get in the way of us choosing the candidates we want and getting the programs and policies we want. Part of getting involved is pushing to make it easier for everyone to vote, to speak up, and to help shape our communities and our countries.)

If you're thinking about getting a little more involved, this site is for you. There are step-by-step instructions on how to get started, and helpful links to keep you informed and encourage you along the way.

You can get started with Step 1: Download the spreadsheet to hold your notes and track your progress (if you want), then move on to quick and easy Step 2: Find your representatives.
