Now that you've made you're first contact, you're ready to build and strengthen your democracy habit.
Here are your next steps:
- Keep contacting your representatives
- Think about how often you'd like to contact them - once a month? Once a week? Every day? (Several times a day?)
- Keep learning
- Read action alerts to learn which issues matter most right now
- Read solid journalism and thoughtful reporting to understand those issues better
- Read about what other people are doing to get inspiration and ideas
- Focus more on action than reading - can you make a phone call for every half hour you spend reading about this stuff?
- Look for positive news and avoid doomscrolling
- Keep exploring
- Try other kinds of involvement - registering voters, sending postcards to voters, donating money, volunteering with pro-democracy organizations, attending town halls
- Learn more about a wider range of issues
(I'll be adding more info and resources about all of these things over the coming weeks.)
As you keep going, strengthen your habit:
- Think about what's working well for you
- Talk about your new habit with your friends
- Look for ways to make it easier for you to make calls, learn about the issues, and stay positive
Thank you for taking the time to make your voice heard.
We can make things better when we tell our representatives what matters to us.
