League of Women Voters

Learn about and support organizations that strengthen democracy

There are thousands of organizations, big and small, all over the country, helping to protect the nation and the people who live here. Some file lawsuits, some help register voters, some raise money for candidates or help candidates run - there are all kinds of groups helping in all kinds of ways.

One way you can get involved is by donating money or volunteering your time with organizations that strengthen democracy.

I've added organizations I think are doing good things - but there are so many more. You can search the internet for local or national organizations working on the issues that matter most to you.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy.

What they do

The League of Women Voters works to protect the rights of voters and expand voting through advocacy, litigation, education, partnerships, and grassroots efforts.

Why I support them

The League of Women Voters has been around since 1920. They've created a great website, VOTE411.org, that helps voters get candidate and election information for their own local elections. They do a lot of work registering voters, and they sponsor candidate debates so people can find out more about the candidates' views.

It's okay to start small.

Action is the antidote to fear and despair.

Even doing small things - learning more about how we can strengthen our democracy, sharing what you know with others, making a phone call - can make a difference.

Right now is a great time to take action.
